So,.... what happened to the Electric Car? ![]() . . . The Problem.......... Lets start with the present. President Clinton has continued the support of cleaner vehicles that most have begun to see as necessary. Health of ourselves and the enviroment is being sorely punished by the continued heavy use of the internal combustion engines(I.C.E.) That today's vehicles use. We all know this to be true especially near large cities and heavy population where its a serious health hazard to many people who are more susceptible, this includes older people, people with heart/lung problems, asthma, and especially worst of all our children. Going off this perspective we know that our hurtful use of gasoline(fossil Fuel) needs to be modified. Our government knows that change is slow. Companies cant produce new technologies at more than a certain rate and people won't accept something they don't yet understand or see it as a second best alternative. . . . . . . So, we basically all can agree that there is some problem that does need a solution. people do differ on how bad they think it is, how much time we have to stop from harsh long term damage, what actual health effects there are and what type of solution we need. But basically we do agree that there is some problem that needs a remedy. . . . What are we doing for a solution? ![]() The president in recent times have recognized the problem and have taken measures to improve what vehicals and emmisions are given off for now and set in place a plan to move to cleaner vehicals(ie. Electric or hybrid) I think that the goal is(please no quotes :-) a % cars sold openly that have 80mpg ratings the % increases per a timetable that is set forth by the federal government. . California, as usual, has taken a more agressive stance due to there situation of serious health risks and problems already present. Due to there population density and weather conditions that don't always facilitate the smog removal that acumulates from traffic. They have put into place a requirment for the year 2002. I think california was going to have it mandatory for 10%? of all new cars sold to be of zero emmisions(electric)..... this would be the swiftest means to bring releif and force car manufactures to build better vehicals and take away the oil industries strong hold grip over our future in vehical choices they currently(basicly there power lies in great amounts of money they generate through over pricing and price fixing the gasoline we buy today and using that money to assure there position in the future) BUT!!! there seemed to be a problem... somone brought up a point of technological difficulty. They professed that this was impossible and that there would be no means at this point to produce Batterys that had charicteristics that an EV(electric vehical) needs. . . the state board listened and postponed the measure indefinitly for that reason. ![]() But who was it that said "hey! it cant be done! there isnt technoligy to do this yet. More time is needed!" So who said this so strongly that it was not only beleived but was enough of an issue to delay the releif of emissions to california they so despretly need? . . . Was it an interstate battery company? . AC delco a major manufacture company for batterys? . U.S. battery(major battery manufacturer for EV's)? . Or alpine Battery company(major back up and fork lift battery manufacturer)? Now the list goes on of Battery manufacturers that didn't come forward and say there was going to be a problem with producing viable batterys for two reasons first the truth-batterys workable for today are in production and have been for 20 years they use the same technoligy thats been used for 90 years just modifyed a bit. Second-they would love to have this oppertunity to provide mass amounts of products to consumers knowing that its going to be a long term business. ![]() Exxon was the lobbyist and entity to complain there wasnt enough technoligy and that time was needed for development. The only other people interested in more development now were the ones being handed the over 4 billion in reasearch that has been wasted on technoligy that was assumed to be unviable for the LONG-TERM! meaning they would likly never actually be able to be realisticly used. While Current technoligy and viable able to be developed and useed in short-term time frame were given vary little attention. As they have been stamped unusable by car manufactures, pure reasearchs(one's who make no money after the reasearch is gone) and oil companies. . . Who would listen to them?????? anyone who was willing to be badgered or "bribed" or would you like to call it a campain contribution? Not that I really know if that happened but seems to me through whats been said and information from the company that it did. having a rough time here thinking about what has caused the sale of EV's on the market to be delayed indefinitly. I mean who listens to an oil company on an item like this? ![]() ![]() ![]() Want to build one yourself? A great Link for electric Vehical clips and info on Electric motor Bikes. |
